About Me

Creativity takes courage - Matisse

A Malaysian based in Switzerland, I have spent over a decade illustrating the things that matter. From political satire and personal webcomics to book covers for global NGOs, my goal is to make the "complex" feel "connected." I also bring a 'legal lens' to my artistry. Because I’ve worked with the intricacies of human rights law, I can translate high-stakes subject matter into visual stories that are as accurate as they are impactful. My work has been translated to French, Chinese, Jawi, Malay, Mongolian and Spanish.

Five years ago, I fell in love with Data Analytics. I now bridge the gap between Tableau, spreadsheets and sketchbooks, creating dashboards, hand-drawn data visualizations or data comics that enhance the human behind the numbers.

My portfolio includes work for Association for Prevention of Torture (APT)Amnesty InternationalOSCE, International Commission of Jurists, National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) of the United Kingdom, National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM). I’ve also been featured as the "Artist of the Month" for Between the Lines (August 2021) and participated in groundbreaking exhibitions curated by Zunar, my mentor and Malaysia's award winning satirist during the COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward to collaborate with non-profit organisations, public institutions, educational centres, startups or social enterprises in helping you elevate your brand and work through impactful visual storytelling.

In my past time, I love to drum, hike and travel on the train.

I am available for commissions and partnerships. Let's turn your data or your story into a work of art. Email me at : shazeera.az@gmail.com
